Tommy Flanagan

American jazz pianist (1930-2001)

Tommy Flanagan was an American jazz pianist. He made his professional debut while still a teenager and went on to work with Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Coleman Hawkins, and Tony Bennett in the mid-1950s. Flanagan released the albums Saxophone Colossus with Sonny Rollins, The Cats with John Coltrane and Kenny Burrell, and Incredible Jazz Guitar with Wes Montgomery. He accompanied Ella Fitzgerald for the greater part of the ‘60s and ‘70s and appeared in the documentary Thelonious Monk: Straight No Chaser. Flanagan’s most popular songs include Blue Twenty, Birk’s Works, and With Malice Towards None. He passed away in 2001.
