Henri Renaud

French musician (1925–2002)

Henri Renaud was a French pianist. He moved to Paris in 1946. In 1949–1950, he played with various jazz groups including Jean-Claude Fohrenbach’s, accompanying Don Byas, James Moody, and Roy Eldridge. He then put together his own band, which worked with Lester Young, Sarah Vaughan and Clifford Brown. He released records in the U.S. with top American jazz musicians such as Milt Jackson, J.J. Johnson, Al Cohn, Oscar Pettiford, Max Roach, Frank Foster, and Bob Brookmeyer. Renaud became head of CBS France’s jazz division in 1964. His albums include Night Session In Paris with Zoot Sims, which featured the popular songs Charlie Was In Rouen, Charlie Went to Cherbourg and I’ve Found a New Baby.
