Stan Kenton

American pianist, composer, arranger and band leader

Stan Kenton was an American pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader. He led a succession of highly original ensembles, featuring top talent including Art Pepper, Stan Getz, Anita O'Day, and June Christy, and later launched his mellophonium group in the '60s. Kenton released Artistry in Rhythm, Standards In Silhouette, The Stage Door Swings, and Duet with June Christy. His most popular songs include Django, My Lady, and Unison Riff. Kenton passed away in 1979.
