Oscar Hammerstein II was an American librettist, lyricist, theatrical producer, and director of musicals. He worked with composers George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, and Richard Rodgers. Hammerstein wrote the lyrics for The Sound of Music. Rodgers & Hammerstein released albums including Oklahoma! with Shirley Jones, The King and I with Yul Brynner, Cinderella with Julie Andrews, South Pacific with Mitzi Gaynor, and The Sound Of Music featuring Julie Andrews. Hammerstein received an Academy Award for Best Original Song for It Might as Well Be Spring, which he co-wrote with Richard Rodgers. He also co-wrote It’s a Grand Night For Singing and Main Title (Our State Fair) with Richard Rodgers.
