Long John Baldry

English musician and voice actor

Long John Baldry was a British musician (1941-2005). He fronted Bluesology, the band that gave Reg Dwight (later known as Elton John) his first prestigious gig. Baldry helped form Steampacket in the mid-'60s with Rod Stewart, Julie Driscoll, and Brian Auger. After Cyril Davies' death in early 1964, Baldry joined the Cyril Davies R&B All Stars, renaming it Long John Baldry and His Hoochie Coochie Men.


Baldry released albums including Boogie Woogie: The Warner Bros. Recordings, Everything Stops for Tea, and It Ain't Easy. He had popular songs such as Don't Try to Lay No Boogie Woogie On the King of Rock 'N' Roll, The Original Story of Winnie the Pooh, and Come Back Again. Baldry also provided the voice for a character in the animated series Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
