Hoagy Carmichael

American composer, pianist, singer, actor and bandleader (1899–1981)

Hoagy Carmichael was an American composer, pianist, singer, actor, and bandleader (1899–1981). He composed Georgia On My Mind and performed with Paul Whiteman. Among his albums are Hoagy Sings Carmichael, Stardust Melody, and The Stardust Road. Carmichael received an Academy Award for Best Original Song for In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening. His other popular songs include Lazy River, Stardust, and Heart and Soul, the latter of which he co-wrote with Frank Loesser. He appeared in films such as The Best Years of Our Lives and To Have and Have Not and television series including Laramie.
