Valerie Simpson is an American singer and songwriter. She co-wrote numerous soul hits with husband Nickolas Ashford, as the duo Ashford & Simpson, for artists including Chuck Jackson, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. Simpson released solo albums including Dinosaurs Are Coming Back Again and Exposed, and songs like Silly Wasn't I and Hummin'. She also released Stuff Like That with Quincy Jones and Chaka Khan, and performed on the song Hummin' with Toots Thielemans as part of Quincy Jones and His Orchestra. She appeared in the film Life, Love, Soul and the documentaries Michael Jackson's Journey from Motown to Off the Wall and Roberta.
