For all her global pop escapades and trilingual flexes, Anitta remains a quintessentially Brazilian superstar, with deep roots and unquestionable pride in the music and culture of her home country. Recent projects like 2024’s Funk Generation have served as veritable flag-waiving opportunities, proudly presenting her as a powerful ambassador of these native sounds. On EQUILIBRIVM, she pushes this worthwhile mission further than perhaps ever before, with expressions of axé, MPB, samba, and more contained within its relatively concise runtime. To aid her in this pursuit, Anitta links with a wide range of artists here, including no shortage of diverse Brazilian talents such as Emanazul, Melly, and Os Garotin. Popwise MPB singer Luedji Luna duets with her on the affectionate “Bemba,” while Marina Sena adds her voice to the salacious yet guarded “Mandinga.” A certain sense of faith carries her on more than a few occasions, indulging in positive reggae vibes with Ponte de Equilibrio on “Deus Existe” or reflecting on life’s journey with Liniker on the motivational “Caminhador.” Even those rare guests who hail from elsewhere mesh well with Anitta’s aesthetic on their appearances. With its baile-funk feel and female empowerment theme, the Shakira team-up “Choka Choka” envelops the Colombian icon without stripping her of her own pop powers. Still, as strong as she sounds on these collaborations, she also shines during EQUILIBRIVM’s solo moments. Her commanding opener “Desgraça” lays waste to an altogether undeserving ex-lover, while the laidback “Só Much Love” represents an openness to turning something seemingly casual into something greater.
