Bahamian-American actor (1927–2022)
Sidney Poitier was a Bahamian-American actor and diplomat (1927-2022). He received the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his performance in Lilies of the Field. Poitier also appeared in films such as In the Heat of the Night, Paris Blues, A Piece of the Action, Sneakers with River Phoenix, and The Jackal. He received a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Autobiography. Behind the camera, Poitier directed Stir Crazy and Hanky Panky.
