Yoshiko Yamaguchi

Japanese singer and actress

Yoshiko Yamaguchi was a Japanese singer, actress, and politician. Under the stage name Li Xianglan (or Ri Kōran in Japanese), she gained fame in China and Japan for songs such as 夜来香 (Yelaixiang) and 心曲. She released albums including Showa o Kazatta Meikashu Tachi Vol. 12 – Yeah Lei Shang – Yoshiko Yamaguchi and 群星會 42 李香蘭 (珍藏系列). After World War II, she was arrested in China for alleged collaboration but was acquitted when it was revealed she was Japanese. She then resumed her career under her real name, appearing in films such as House of Bamboo in the United States. Later, she served as a member of Japan’s House of Councillors. Yamaguchi passed away in 2014.
