Dave Prater

American singer

Dave Prater was an American singer. In 1961 he formed the vocal duo Sam & Dave with Sam Moore, and Jerry Wexler eventually signed the duo to Atlantic Records, where they were able to record at Stax Records in Memphis. Beginning with their 1965 single You Don't Know Like I Know, Sam & Dave charted 10 straight singles on Billboard's R&B chart, including Hold On, I'm Comin', Soul Man, and I Thank You. The duo broke up in 1970 but reunited a year later, with Prater and Moore's last performance together occurring in 1981. Beginning in 1982, Prater toured with singer Sam Daniels as The New Sam & Dave Revue; they remained active until Prater's death in 1988.
