Al Viola

American musician (1919-2007)

Al Viola was an American musician. He played in a jazz band while in the Army where he met Page Cavanaugh and bassist Lloyd Pratt, with whom he formed a trio. He became a very busy studio musician in Los Angeles, performing on the soundtracks of numerous films, television shows, and commercials, including the prominent mandolin part in The Godfather. Viola worked on and off as a guitarist with Frank Sinatra from 1946 to 1980. He released albums including Guitars and Solo Guitar. His most popular songs include Imagination, My Romance, and The Boy Next Door with Johnny Smith.
