Jarmila Novotna

Czech lyric coloratura soprano and actress

Jarmila Novotna was a Czech actress, opera singer, and singer (1907-1994). She accepted a contract with the Kroll Opera in Berlin and appeared in Rigoletto at the Arena di Verona, Italy. She then sang in L'elisir d'amore at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Italy. Novotna released several albums including Lehár & Co with Richard Tauber and Carlotta Vanconti, Ludwig van Beethoven: Complete Symphonies & Selected Overtures (Recorded in 1939) with Arturo Toscanini and the NBC Symphony Orchestra, and Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro recorded in 1937 with the Vienna Philharmonic and Bruno Walter. She also performed with Ezio Pinza on a song from the same opera. Her most popular songs include arias from Le nozze di Figaro, such as Le nozze di Figaro, K. 492: Overture, Le nozze di Figaro, K. 492, Act II Scene 1: Cavatina. Porgi, amor, qualche ristoro, which she recorded with Bruno Walter and the Wiener Philharmoniker.
