

José Iturbi
Spanish conductor and pianist (1895–1980)
José Iturbi was a Spanish conductor and pianist (1895-1980). He made his New York debut in 1929 and was Principal Conductor of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra from 1936 to 1944. Iturbi released the albums Debussy & Ravel: Piano Works by José Iturbi, José Iturbi Plays Chopin, and The Victor & HMV Solo Recordings. He provided the soundtrack piano playing for Cornel Wilde’s on-screen Chopin in the 1945 biopic A Song To Remember and appeared in the films Music for Millions and Anchors Aweigh. Iturbi’s most popular songs include Impromptu No. 1 in A-Flat Major, Op. 29, Etude No. 3 in E Major, Op. 10, No. 3, and Valse No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 34, No. 2.
