

Hugh Masekela
South African jazz trumpeter
Hugh Masekela was a South African jazz trumpeter. His short-lived band The Jazz Epistles became the first South African jazz group to release an album. Masekela had a No. 1 hit in America with Grazing In The Grass in 1968; it is one of his most popular songs alongside Riot. He released albums including Home Is Where the Music Is, Hope, and The Boy's Doin' It. Masekela appeared in documentaries such as Monterey Pop, Amandla! A Revolution In Four-Part Harmony, and I Am Thalente. He died in 2018.
