Jimmy Witherspoon

American jump blues singer (1920–1997)

Jimmy Witherspoon was an American jump blues singer (1920-1997). He fronted for jump blues and swing bands in the 1940s and later worked with jazz musicians Richard Groove Holmes, Earl Hines, and Roy Eldridge in the late 1950s. Witherspoon released the albums Blue Spoon / Spoon In London, New Orleans Blues with Wilbur De Paris, and Six Foot Two Blues. He performed popular songs such as No Rollin' Blues, Big Fine Girl, and Ain't Nobody's Business. Later in his career, Witherspoon appeared in the films The Black Godfather and Georgia.
