Brantley Gilbert reflects on fatherhood, sobriety, and redemption on this eighth studio album, and his first full-length project as a signee to BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville. Produced by Brock Berryhill (Jake Owen, Kane Brown), SINS OF THE FATHER is right in Gilbert’s sweet spot, with 15 of the kind of gritty, sludgy country-rock songs that first earned him a devoted following. Opening track “THE ADDICTION” references Gilbert’s former substance abuse while celebrating the relationship that has helped him stay sober. Lead single “GOOD DAMN” makes use of his penchant for a punny play on words, for a sultry, hip-hop-inspired tune about reconnecting with an old flame. On “F****D ME UP,” Gilbert again uses a sly turn of phrase to illustrate how he found redemption through love, making for the collection’s most potent emotional statement. Friend and contemporary Jelly Roll joins him on “BEGGING FOR CHANGE,” a power ballad about working to become a better person.
