Maureen Forrester
Maureen Forrester was a Canadian operatic contralto. She had her debut recital in Montreal in 1953, and made her New York debut in 1956. Forrester debuted at the Metropolitan Opera as Erda in Das Rheingold in 1975. Her albums include Gluck: Orfeo Ed Euridice with Teresa Stich-Randall and Charles Mackerras, Mahler: Symphony No. 2 in C Minor with the New York Philharmonic conducted by Bruno Walter, and Verdi: Requiem - Rossini: Stabat Mater featuring the New York Philharmonic and The Philadelphia Orchestra. Forrester performed songs including Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125 - Choral: 4. Presto - Allegro assai recorded with the Berlin Philharmonic and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, and Vespers, Op. 37: VI. Ave Maria recorded with Mstislav Rostropovich and the Choral Arts Society of Washington.
