Trinidadian calypso singer and actor

Sir Lancelot was a Trinidadian calypso singer and actor, born Lancelot Victor Edward Pinard. He was a key figure in popularizing calypso music in the United States during the 1940s, whom Harry Belafonte acknowledged as an influence. He collaborated with fellow calypsonians like Atilla the Hun and Roaring Lion, and released notable songs including War. His albums include Atomic Energy and Love, Love Alone. Sir Lancelot held a year-long residency at the Village Vanguard in New York City. He also appeared in several films, including I Walked with a Zombie, Brute Force with Burt Lancaster, To Have and Have Not with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, Two Yanks in Trinidad, The Curse of the Cat People, and The Ghost Ship.
