Deems Taylor
Deems Taylor was an American composer, music critic, and promoter of classical music (1885-1966). He authored works on music, served as a music critic, and was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society in 1934. Taylor's recording featuring the Minnesota Orchestra conducted by Antal Doráti include Britten: The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra; Tchaikovsky: Nutcracker Suite [The Mercury Masters: The Mono Recordings]. Another album in his discography is The Lost Music of Deems Taylor, Volume I. His most popular songs, performed by the Minnesota Orchestra and Antal Doráti, include Commentary to the ‘1812 Overture’/Sound Effects/Bells, Commentary to ‘Wellington’s Victory’, and The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, Op. 34. Taylor also served as a radio commentator.
