Japanese composer, pianist, record producer, and actor (1952-2023)
Ryuichi Sakamoto was a Japanese musician (1952-2023). He was a member of the Japanese electronic music band Yellow Magic Orchestra. Sakamoto released albums including async, Opus, Playing the Piano 12122020, and The Revenant with Bryce Dessner and Alva Noto. He composed the award-winning score for The Last Emperor, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1986. Sakamoto also appeared in the films The Last Emperor and New Rose Hotel, and in the documentary Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda. Among his most popular songs are Andata and 20211130.
