American R&B, soul and funk drummer
Bernard Purdie is an American R&B, soul, and funk drummer. He toured with King Curtis and Aretha Franklin in 1970 and served as Franklin's music director from 1970 to 1975. Purdie released albums Purdie Good!, Soul Drums, and Stand by Me with The Playboys. His most popular songs include Song for Aretha, Cold Sweat, and Wasteland. He recorded with Dizzy Gillespie at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1980 and later toured with Gillespie in 1983. Purdie appears in the documentary Amazing Grace.
