American folk-blues singer and guitarist

Brownie McGhee was an American folk-blues singer and guitarist. After a 1937 operation restored most of his mobility after contracting polio, McGhee travelled and played throughout the Southeast. He released solo albums such as Brownie's Blues and Brownie McGhee Sings the Blues. McGhee had a decades-long partnership with Sonny Terry; together, they released albums including Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry Sing, Preachin' the Blues, and Sonny & Brownie. Among his most popular songs with Terry are If You Lose Your Money, People Get Ready, and John Henry. McGhee appeared in the documentary The Blues Under the Skin and the film ANGEL HEART. He died in 1996.
