Harry Belafonte

American singer, activist, and actor

Harry Belafonte was an American singer and actor (1927-2023). He is known for his songs The Banana Boat Song (Day-O) and Jump in the Line. Belafonte released the albums Calypso, Belafonte Sings of the Caribbean, Belafonte at Carnegie Hall: The Complete Concert, Jump Up Calypso, and An Evening with Belafonte/Makeba. He charted throughout the 1960s while helping to spearhead the Civil Rights Movement. Belafonte was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Early Influences category in 2022 and appeared in the films Sidney, BlacKkKlansman, and Bobby.
