American former professional tennis player

John McEnroe is an American former professional tennis player. He is known for his intense rivalries with Björn Borg and Jimmy Connors. McEnroe won the NCAA singles and team titles for Stanford University in 1978 and qualified for Wimbledon, reaching the semifinals in 1977. McEnroe's rapid rise continued as he became the youngest winner of the U.S. Open in over three decades in 1979 and won his first Masters Grand Prix in 1978 against Arthur Ashe. McEnroe was a highly successful player in tennis singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, achieving significant victories in all three formats. McEnroe has made contributions to audiovisuals through his appearances in the documentary McEnroe, the films Mr. Deeds and You Don't Mess With the Zohan.
