

Charles Laughton
British-American actor (1899–1962)
Charles Laughton was a British-American film and stage actor (1899-1962). He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and later joined the army in 1917, serving in the Huntingdonshire Cyclists. Laughton appeared in films such as Mutiny on the Bounty, The Old Dark House, Captain Kidd, Hobson’s Choice, Witness for the Prosecution, Jamaica Inn, and Spartacus with Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis. He received an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in The Private Life of Henry VIII. Beyond acting, Laughton directed The Night of the Hunter.
