John Wayne was an American actor who personified the American frontier heritage in Western films. He appeared in films such as The Searchers, Rio Bravo, El Dorado, McLintock!, Big Jake, and Rio Lobo. Wayne received an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama for his role in True Grit. He also directed The Alamo and The Green Berets, and produced Hondo in 1953 and again in 1967. Wayne died in 1979.
