Ed Asner was an American actor. He appeared in The Mary Tyler Moore Show from 1970-1977, winning a Primetime Emmy Award for his role as Lou Grant three times. He also received two Emmys as a lead actor in the spin-off series Lou Grant. He made other notable TV appearances on Rich Man, Poor Man, Roots, and the HBO drama Too Big to Fail. He also appeared in the films Elf and JFK and lent his voice to the series Gargoyles and the Pixar animated film Up. Asner died in 2021.
