Jim Nabors was an American actor and singer (1930-2017). He began his career as a singer and comedian, and was discovered by Andy Griffith while working at a Santa Monica nightclub. Nabors originated the role of Gomer Pyle in The Andy Griffith Show and later starred in its spin-off Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. He transitioned to film, appearing in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Stroker Ace, and Cannonball Run II.
