Her film credits include The Hotel New Hampshire alongside Jodie Foster, The River Niger with James Earl Jones, The Divorce, and Cage Without a Key. Allen also starred in the TV movies Vampire and Victims. She had a recurring role on the CBS series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.
