American actress and comedian (1922–2009)

Bea Arthur was an American actress and comedian (1922-2009). Her film credits include Lovers and Other Strangers, My First Love, and For Better or Worse, where she worked with James Woods. On stage, she won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in the 1966 production of Mame. Arthur is best known for her television roles, such as her portrayal of Maude Findlay in the series Maude from 1972 to 1978, for which she received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1977, and Dorothy Zbornak in The Golden Girls alongside Betty White.
