John Gielgud was a British actor and theatrical director (1904-2000). He gained his first paid acting work as a junior member of his cousin Phyllis Neilson-Terry’s company.

Gielgud appeared in films such as Arthur, Lion of the Desert, Appointment With Death, and Murder on the Orient Express. He also starred in the series Brideshead Revisited and Merlin.

He received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Arthur and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for Summer’s Lease.
