Foo Fighters

American rock band

Foo Fighters are an American rock band founded by Dave Grohl after the breakup of his previous band Nirvana. The band's 1995 debut Foo Fighters was essentially a Grohl solo effort, with the drummer also handling vocal and instrumental duties.

In 1997 Foo Fighters released its first full-band effort, The Colour And The Shape, which featured Pat Smear on guitar and Nate Mendel on bass and which included the anthemic My Hero. In 1999, There Is Nothing Left to Lose marked the band's first album with Taylor Hawkins on drums; after its release guitarist Chris Shiflett came into the fold. The foursome of Grohl, Mendel, Hawkins, and Shiflett released albums and toured steadily over the ensuing decades, with Smear rejoining the band in 2010. After Hawkins' passing in 2022, Josh Freese joined the band as drummer and percussionist.
