Lionel Richie
American singer, songwriter and actor
Lionel Richie is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He first found fame as a member of The Commodores, the Motown funk and soul band formed in Tuskegee, Alabama.
Having reached No. 1 with the Diana Ross duet Endless Love in 1981, Richie released his self-titled debut solo album the following year, with lead single Truly giving him another US No. 1. He received the Grammy Award for Album of the Year for the 1986 No. 1 Dancing On the Ceiling, while he scored his third US No. 1 album with 2012’s Tuskegee—a collection of previously released Richie songs reinterpreted with guests including Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, and Willie Nelson. He also released a greatest hits album The Definitive Collection in 2003.
Richie’s most popular songs include Stuck On You, All Night Long (All Night), Hello, and Say You, Say Me. He also co-wrote the 1985 charity single We Are the World by the supergroup U.S.A. for Africa and appeared in the 2024 documentary about its making, The Greatest Night in Pop. He has also appeared in the films The Preacher’s Wife and Studio 666 with Jenna Ortega.
