Sinéad O'Connor was an Irish singer, songwriter, and activist. She released the albums The Lion and the Cobra in 1987 and I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got in 1990; she won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance for the latter in 1991. She later released the album Universal Mother. Her discography includes the globally phenomenally successful cover of Nothing Compares 2 U alongside popular songs such as Drink Before the War and The Emperor's New Clothes. O'Connor appeared in the film The Butcher Boy and the documentaries Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan and Nothing Compares. She pursued priesthood in the Irish Orthodox Catholic Church before converting to Islam in 2018; she passed away in 2023.
