Gary Payton

American basketball player

Gary Payton is a former American basketball player. He is the first point guard to win NBA Defensive Player of the Year, leading the Seattle SuperSonics to an NBA Finals appearance. Payton won an NBA championship with the Miami Heat in 2006, was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013, and named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. He also played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, and Milwaukee Bucks. Payton has also appeared in the film Like Mike and the series The Jamie Foxx Show.
