Merry Clayton is an American singer. She is famously known for her iconic vocals on the Rolling Stones song Gimme Shelter, and released the albums Gimme Shelter, Keep Your Eye On the Sparrow, and Merry Clayton. Clayton's popular songs include Yes, Southern Man, and Beautiful Scars. She was a member of Ray Charles' Raelettes in the 1960s and sang in a gospel group with Della Reese. Clayton has appeared in the films Blame It On the Night and Cagney & Lacey: The Return, as well as the television series Cagney & Lacey.
