H.E.R.
H.E.R., born Gabriella Wilson, is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Emerging in 2016 with her debut EP H.E.R. Volume 1, Wilson initially concealed her identity in the hopes that the music would speak for itself. Wilson gradually built a following and, in 2018, was named to Apple Music’s Up Next program for rising artists.
H.E.R. gained widespread acclaim for her musicality, earning multiple Grammy Awards, including Best R&B Album for H.E.R. in 2019 and Song of the Year for I Can’t Breathe in 2021. In addition to her Grammy success, Wilson won an Academy Award for Best Original Song with Fight for You from 2021’s Judas and the Black Messiah. Her debut studio album Back of My Mind was also released in 2021 and boasted collaborations with YG, Lil Baby, and Ty Dolla $ign. She was also named Apple Music’s Songwriter of the Year.
Among her most popular songs are Could've Been, Damage, and Best Part with Daniel Caesar. She has appeared in the special At Home With Apple Music: A Black Music Month Celebration, and the films Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration in 2022 and 2023’s The Color Purple.

- The D.L. Hughley Show Full EP | Federal judge denies Trump administration student data; Please keep my secret from mom and dad; R&B singer and songwriter H.E.R joins DLHS; Trump posted himself as Jesus, no a doctor; and More

The crew breaks down a major legal setback for the Trump administration after a federal judge blocked an effort to force public universities in 17 states to turn over years of student admissions data tied to race, calling the rollout rushed and legally flawed. From there, the show dives into the Question of the Day—whether parents should keep secrets when a child says “don’t tell mom or dad”—prompting thoughtful, emotional, and sometimes hilarious listener responses about trust, parenting, and where the line should be drawn. The episode also features a standout interview with Grammy-winning R&B singer and songwriter H.E.R., who talks about staying mysterious, focusing on the music, and building a career that lets her art speak louder than celebrity—an approach that’s helped her earn multiple Grammys and critical acclaim. And in classic DL fashion, the show doesn’t hold back when addressing the latest Trump controversy after he posted—and later deleted—an AI-generated image portraying himself as Jesus, then claimed it was actually him “as a doctor.” The post triggered backlash from religious leaders and even some of his supporters, especially after Trump publicly criticized the Pope, turning the moment into another example of political spectacle colliding with public outrage.
