Deep Purple
Deep Purple is an English rock band. Following a lineup change in 1970 where singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover replaced Rod Evans and Nick Simper, the band released the albums Deep Purple In Rock and Machine Head, featuring Smoke On The Water. The band's songs include Knocking at Your Back Door, Perfect Strangers, and Woman from Tokyo. In the mid-1970s, David Coverdale replaced Gillan, Glenn Hughes replaced Glover, and Tommy Bolin replaced guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. - COMING JUL 3, 2026 SPLAT!

The long-running band’s 24th studio album contemplates the great beyond. Based on a concept conceived by Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan, SPLAT! envisions the end of humanity not as an apocalypse but as our collective transition into a life beyond physical existence. Opener “Arrogant Boy” addresses the stereotypical ignorant human with a keyboard-heavy style reminiscent of Purple’s early-’70s salad days. “Diablo” rides a retro groove and features guitar moves from recent recruit Simon McBride that might just turn the head of ex-Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Prog adventure “Guilt Trippin’” imagines God and Charles Darwin having a quiet drink in the pub, wondering where the human experiment went wrong. All the while, classic Purple personnel Gillan, drummer Ian Paice, and bassist Roger Glover, plus all-star keyboardist Don Airey—all aged 78 to 80—revel in the unlikely reality of the band’s 24th studio album.
