John Lennon
British singer and songwriter
John Lennon was a British singer, songwriter, and founding member of The Beatles. In 1969, the year before the widely influential group disbanded, Lennon and wife Yoko Ono founded the Plastic Ono Band, and in 1970 released his first solo album, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. In 1971, he released the commercially and critically successful Imagine, featuring the song of the same name, as well as Jealous Guy.
The couple's 1980 album Double Fantasy featured the songs Woman, Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy), and (Just Like) Starting Over. Lennon appeared in Let It Be, Imagine: John Lennon, and Sweet Toronto, which featured the Plastic Ono Band. Peter Jackson's three-part documentary Get Back, released in 2021, gave an insight into Lennon's life with The Beatles. He was assassinated in 1980. His songs, both with The Beatles and as a solo musician, have remained influential. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice: with The Beatles in 1988 and as a solo artist in 1994.
