The singer and MC born Willie Maxwell II—the man professionally beloved as Fetty Wap—touched down from an approximate three-year prison bid on January 8, 2026. Before April Fools’ Day of the same year, he delivered a 17-track album that at once affirmed what longtime fans and supporters had been missing, while introducing them to a versatility they may find novel. What, you might be wondering, was left for Fetty Wap to prove after putting his hometown on the map with the first single of his career, becoming one of the most in-demand collaborators of his breakout era, and releasing a debut album with more wedding reception bangers than potentially any rapper in history? Look no further than Zavier for the answer. The Fetty Wap of this album is the same one of hits “Trap Queen,” “679,” “My Way,” “Again,” and any number of increasingly deeper-cut bangers, somehow miraculously devoid of the rust that so frequently befalls long-term incarcerated MCs. With conspicuously grown ’n’ sexy opener “Right Back to You,” it’s clear the pipes are fully intact. Though he’s been getting “Wiz Khalifa high” since at least 2016’s “Wake Up,” Fetty’s paying homage to rap’s stoner king again on “Like a Taylor,” a sort of lounge singer set—closer akin to something Frank Sinatra might have sung in his twilight years if he were Black, had one eye, and had bested the streets of Paterson, New Jersey. Zavier is, indeed, rich with Fetty Wap’s signature back-porch harmonization (“Real Love,” “Spot Back”), and also peppered with pockets of pop-R&B (“Favorite Girl,” “Fool for You”), more traditional rapping (“N LUV,” “With It or What”), homages to personal heroes (Max B on “BossDon,” Oskama Esteban on “LYG”), a sprinkling of late-’80s boogie (“Say When”), and a subdued interpretation of big-band jazz (“White Roses”). In light of so many vibes and possible directions for Fetty’s music to take, the question then becomes where does Fetty Wap go next? The answer—as should be the case for anyone newly freed from prison—is wherever he wants.
