American composer and music theorist (1912-1992)
John Cage was an American avant-garde composer. He employed chance operations and other experimental methods to create music. His best known work is 4'33'' which is composed of the absence of sound. He has also released Cage Against the Machine and Ryoanji. His most popular songs include Inlets [excerpt] with Paeder Mercier and John David Fulleman, and Variations IV: Excerpts 10pm To 11pm with David Tudor. Cage was also a visual artist and appeared in the documentaries For the Whales and Poetry In Motion.
