Breakup songs can take many forms—from guttingly mournful to unabashedly vengeful to joyfully liberatory. On the pop-rock title track from EXO leader SUHO’s fourth solo mini album, breaking up isn’t something to dwell on. “Let’s skip the sad, boring stories,” the K-pop vocalist sings before moving on to an aspirationally unbothered delivery of the hook: “So who are you?/By tomorrow, we’ll both be free.” On “Light the Fire,” SUHO goes harder in its exploration of a feverish desire, electric guitar building alongside emotive vocals as night takes over in the outro. “Medicine,” a pop song about an affection that cures all ills, shares some of the same retro groove DNA as SUHO’s 2022 hit “Hurdle,” while pop rock “Birthday” keeps things merry in its celebration of youthful freedom. SUHO has co-writing credit on “Golden Hour,” a Britpop-inspired song about appreciating life’s fleeting moments. Who Are You does mostly skip the sad songs, save for “Fadeout.” On the album-ending (not counting the English-language version of “Who Are You”) ballad, SUHO indulges a regretful reluctance to let go of a finished relationship, offering a cathartic counterbalance to the carefree breakup track that began the album.
