Herb Jeffries

American singer and actor (1913-2014)

Herb Jeffries was an American singer and actor. His big break came when he sang for Earl Hines at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair; he went on to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Jeffries appeared in films such as Harlem Rides the Range, The Bronze Buckaroo, and Two-Gun Man From Harlem, the latter alongside Mantan Moreland. He also was featured in the documentaries Basin Street Revue and Rhythm and Blues Revue. As a recording artist, Jeffries recorded many songs, including Left a Good Deal In Mobile, Winter Wonderland, and Silent Night.
