Esperanza Spalding

American jazz musician

Esperanza Spalding is an American jazz bassist, singer, and composer. She won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2011 after releasing the albums JunjoEsperanza, and Chamber Music Society. Other albums from Spalding include Radio Music Society, Emily’s D+Evolution, Twelve Little Spells, and Milton + esperanza with Milton Nascimento. Some of Spalding’s most popular songs include Black Gold and  Unconditional Love.


Along with writing and performing, Spalding became the youngest faculty member at the Berklee College of Music at age 20, and has also taught at Harvard University.
