Rev. James Cleveland was an American gospel singer and composer (1931-1991). Cleveland was a key figure in integrating contemporary Black styles such as jazz, R&B, and funk into traditional choir frameworks. He released the album Peace Be Still with The Angelic Choir, which includes the song of the same name. His other albums include Gospel Greats and Sings With the World’s Greatest Choirs 20th Anniversary Album. God Is is one of his most popular songs, alongside Where Is Your Faith In God. Cleveland appeared in the documentary Gospel. He featured on Aretha Franklin's album Amazing Grace.
