

Billy Eckstine
American musician (1914–1993)
Billy Eckstine was an American musician (1914-1993). He got his first major break as a singer with Earl Hines' Grand Terrace Orchestra in the late 1930s. In the mid-1940s, Eckstine led his own big band which featured a rotating line-up of soon-to-be jazz legends including Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Charlie Parker. He released albums such as Billy's Best!, No Cover, No Minimum, and The Legendary Big Band. Eckstine's popular songs include Christmas Eve, Body and Soul, and Oo Bop Sh'Bam. He also appeared in films such as Skirts Ahoy!, Let's Do It Again, and Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling.
