Leopold Stokowski

British-born American conductor (1882–1977)

Leopold Stokowski was a British-born American conductor (1882-1977). He began his conducting career with the Cincinnati Symphony in 1909 and later helped transform the Philadelphia Orchestra into one of the world's most celebrated ensembles. Stokowski also conducted the NBC Symphony Orchestra and the music for Walt Disney's Fantasia, which he also appeared in. Stokowski would also found the All-American Youth Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra. Some of his most popular recordings include The Sorcerer's Apprentice and The Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71A, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy with The Philadelphia Orchestra.
