Diahann Carroll was an American actress, singer, model, and activist. Carroll appeared in films such as Porgy and Bess, Paris Blues, Eve's Bayou, The Sweetest Gift, and The Courage to Love. She starred in the groundbreaking sitcom Julia, where she played the lead role, making history as the first African American woman in a leading role in a non-stereotypical role. For this performance, she received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Television Series Musical or Comedy in 1968. Carroll also appeared in the series Sally Hemings: An American Scandal and released the singles Elusive Butterfly, Love Walked In, and It Had To Be You. She passed away in 2019.
