Jim Backus was an American radio, television, film, and voice actor (1913-1989). He pursued his acting career while working in summer stock and expanded into animation after World War II. Backus voiced Mr Magoo in animated shorts and TV series and Hubert Updike III in a recurring radio role. He appeared in Gilligan's Island and films such as Rebel Without a Cause, Pete's Dragon, and Good Guys Wear Black.
